operation puppy love update

Situation Update from HSSV

As of Wednesday, 9/28/22, all 126 dogs seized have been released to the Humane Society of Skagit Valley. We continue to provide our lifesaving efforts to these pups. We will be working in phases, as all of them are heavily infested with a variety of intestinal parasites – along with severe dental disease, ocular issues, and other medical conditions that need to be addressed.  Our priority now is to focus on those conditions. Additionally, a few of the dogs are pregnant mamas, increasing the number in our care. As the animals advance to a healthier state we will prepare for that wonderful day that we can offer them up for adoption. Therefore, we encourage everyone to continue to follow our social media and website and we’ll continue to update you all as we progress.

Ongoing Needs

We have been blessed and overwhelmed by the amazing outpouring of support from our community. It has been so great to see you all rally around these dogs! We have updated our wish lists based on our current needs and the number of supplies we’ve already received. Namely, we no longer need dry dog food, towels, and blankets, but do need:

  • Gently used flat sheets
  • Hand soap dispensers and refills
  • Canned puppy food
  • Flora Probiotic Powder
  • Pure pureed pumpkin (no spices)
  • Small dog plush toys
  • Baby food (turkey, chicken, beef)

We have updated our wish lists accordingly. Donations can be dropped off between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. at 18841 Kelleher Road in Burlington. You can find the wish lists at www.skagithumane.org/puppylove where you will also be able to make a cash donation if you so wish. Cash donations will be critical going forward, in order for us to be able to provide medical care to over 130+ dogs after the mamas give birth.

Return to Normal?

As to our “normal” operations, we are just as anxious to be able to get back to our regular programming as you are to have us back. Currently, we are still operating curbside with very limited services based on manpower. Adoption services and appointments will be scheduled from 1 to 3 pm Wednesdays & Saturdays.

If you find a stray, we will do our best to take it, but it is all contingent on available space in the shelter. If we are not able to take your stray or surrender in then we will add you to a list and contact you as soon as we are able to accommodate. Please follow up regularly and have patience as we really have our hands full and our staff and volunteers are doing their level best to stay on top of it all.

If you have lost a pet do let us know. Email is best: shelter@skagithumane.org – be sure to include some photos and all details you can. However, be sure to use social media as well. There are many lost and found pages on Facebook that you should post to and also be sure to call 911 to make a report as well. The same goes for found pets.

Our Most Sincere Thanks!

Thanks again for all your amazing support, generosity, and patience. We have been given an extraordinary challenge, but with your help, we are rising to meet it with gusto! Keep an eye on our social media and website and we will continue to update you as we go.
