There has been a rumor circulating that we are closing our doors and that the animals in our care will be euthanized if not adopted. There is no truth to this rumor. Apparently, Mount Vernon Animal Shelter, an east coast shelter located in New York, is closing its doors at the end of January. This has been picked up locally and confused with our shelter. Our shelter is the Humane Society of Skagit Valley and we are located in Burlington, Washington. While we understand why there may be some confusion given our proximity to Mount Vernon, Washington, we want to reassure you all that we have NO plans to close our doors. We will continue to proudly serve our community as we have for nearly 50 years.
