On September 2nd, 2022, The Humane Society of Skagit Valley (HSSV) assisted the Skagit County Sheriff’s Department in rescuing 126 dogs from a suspected hoarding situation/puppy mill. The dogs were in absolutely heartbreaking shape, living in deplorable conditions. After we examined them, we determined that they were malnourished and clearly only given the absolute bare minimum of food and water – some weighed as little as a pound or less when we took them in. They arrived coated in urine and feces with matted fur and nails so long they had difficulty walking. Most of them need extensive medical care.
Working with our staff and fantastic volunteers, we have provided these dogs with life-saving emergency medical care and much-needed grooming. Our goal was to stabilize them, get them back to good health, spayed or neutered, and adopt them to loving homes that would give them a second chance at a better life. We are proud to report that all of the dogs we rescued have now been successfully adopted and are being given a second chance at a good life!
HSSV never hesitated when the call for help came in. We knew it would be a significant expense and tax our limited staff and volunteers, but saying no was never an option. Despite the expense, long hours, and tragic circumstances, we are proud of our efforts to save these dogs!

I have been trying to find a puppy or a young dog for a couple of months now. I lost my miniature pincher from old age she was 15. She developed liver disease. I would love to have a puppy or a young dog. I came down once but you were closed I am in Anacortes. I will attempt another visit soon.
