Dear friends of HSSV:
Based on Governor Enslee’s statement this evening, we would like to impress upon you all how important it is at this time for people to keep their animals indoors as much as possible and supervise well if outdoors. This is always important, but even more so now, due to the fact that HSSV will need to limit our services even further. We are responsible for the health and safety of our staff, volunteers, and animals and we have an obligation to adhere to the Governor’s order. As of tomorrow, we will not be able to do any meet and greets and adoptions for the next two weeks. Intakes will be limited as well and we plead with the public to hold off bringing in any strays or surrenders during this time. If you do find a stray that needs to be brought in, or if you have lost a pet, please contact Animal Control Services at 360-428-3211. They will know how to proceed from there. If you have questions regarding this further reduction of services at HSSV, please contact us at info@skagithumane.org.
How you can help:
You can help us during this challenging time by visiting this link and signing the petition therein. Your signature will tell legislators that Congress must provide emergency aid to nonprofit organizations by expanding charitable giving and providing nonprofit organizations like HSSV with grants, loans, and tax credits.
Also, if you are able, you may donate here at our donation portal to help our shelter get through this difficult time and decreasing revenue stream. Every gift helps and we so appreciate your support.
Thanks so much and please, stay safe and healthy!

Hello – Many other shelters are holding “by appointment” only adoptions or connecting prospective adopters with the foster parents of the pet for meet and greets during this time of Covid19 ( that could potentially extend of months of closures, including animals not finding their forever homes and losing donations). Is this something your shelter is considering? We would love to make an appointment to adopt! Thanks!
Hello Candice, and thank you for inquiring. That is exactly what we are doing during this time. Please visit our adoption page to see if there is a pet you are interested in adopting. If so, drop us an email at info@skagithumane.org and let us know and we will set an appointment for you to facilitate the adoption. You can complete the application online once you find a pet of interest. Adoptable animals can be found here: https://skagithumane.org/adopt-a-pet/ thanks so much and stay safe and healthy! — HSSV
I know you are doing appointments, but now that the order has been extended a month, will there be more flexibility to accept appointments from residents of other counties to adopt?
Hi Steve, we are doing out of county adoptions at this time. We ask that you first browse the website and look through the animals we have for adoption. If you find one you are interested in, please complete the online application for adoption, available on that pet’s profile page. We won’t be able to do a meet and greet, but we will do a phone interview and review your application to see if you are a good match. If you agree to adopt and it doesn’t work out, you can return the pet to us and you will be issued a raincheck to use for a different pet within 12 months. I should also mention that until a pet is spayed or neutered, it won’t be able to leave the shelter. That’s a challenge, but once we get past that, things can move somewhat fast. Hopefully this answers some questions for you. We’re working hard to comply with the Governor’s social distancing orders and to keep everyone safe and healthy. Please have a look at the website, complete your application there and if you have any questions, feel free to email us at info@skagithumane.org and we’ll get back with you in a timely manner. Thanks so much!
