During these uncertain and changing times, we have had to adapt and overcome some serious challenges. We are learning, like everyone else, a new normal and are aspiring to operate our shelter in a safe and healthy manner. Our utmost priority is serving animals in need while also protecting our staff, volunteers, and community members. As such, we have made the decision to make some changes to our schedule and operating procedures.
For the foreseeable future, we will be operating on an appointment-only basis, beginning Monday, August 24th. This is not a decision we made lightly but we feel it is the right call in order to protect the health and well-being of our staff. Community members will not be able to come in to “browse the animals” as in the past. Instead, if a potential adopter is interested in an animal, they will need to contact the shelter to set up an appointment to meet said animal. Likewise, for those who need to surrender a pet or pick up a found pet. All shelter business will be conducted by appointment only going forward.
While we are no longer allowing drop-ins, we are going to keep our expanded phone hours, in order to serve the public better. We will man our phones from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday and 8:30 am and 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday – however, we will be closing from 1 pm to 2 pm daily, to allow staff an hour to eat lunch and have a break. They are working very hard to care for our animals as well as serving the needs of our community and deserve some downtime to catch their breath and regroup once a day.
Community members can contact us to set up an appointment by calling 360-757-0445 or emailing us at shelter@skagithumane.org.
Again, our new phone hours beginning Monday, August 24th, 2020 are as follows:
8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday
8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday
We will continue to screen visitors at the door and will, of course, continue our practice of deep cleaning and sanitizing all surfaces multiple times a day.
We thank you for your continued support of our shelter as well as your patience and understanding. We are Skagit Strong and we will get through this together.
