Due to an overwhelming response, applications are now closed.

Due to overwhelming (and amazing!) demand, we no longer need volunteers or groomers. If that should change we will update here and on social media to let you know. See below for other ways you can help with this very worthy cause. Stay tuned and thanks for all the fantastic support!

On September 2nd, 2022, HSSV took in over 100 dogs on an emergency basis due to an animal neglect cruelty criminal case. While we can’t give many details about this situation at this time, we can say the condition they were in was abysmal; it is awful and heartbreaking. But all is not lost!  With the help of law enforcement, the amazing staff of HSSV and an overwhelming amount of support from our generous community we are making a difference!

Since their arrival at our shelter we have seen the community respond by offering much-needed donations as well as their time as volunteers to feed, clean, medicate, and groom these little furbabies in need. While the need is still great, we are full of hope that we can continue to turn things around for these canines and give them a second chance at a brand new life full of love and all the good things they deserve after enduring such unimaginable hardship.

Read on below for updates, to find out how you can help, and what our current needs are. Thank you for your continued  support and making a difference where it’s needed most!

Cash Donations

Cash donations are an important part of our recovery plan for these dogs. Many will need surgeries, other medical care, spaying or neutering, medications, and more. The monies raised through this fundraiser will go 100% toward the care and rehabilitation of these animals. We are asking folks to please make donations in Deputy Anne Jackson’s name to our annual Anne Jackson Memorial Walk fund. Deputy Jackson was killed in the line of duty on September 8th, 2008. She was a huge supporter of HSSV and a wonderful animal lover and we can think of no better way to honor her memory than to collect donations in her name on behalf of these animals in desperate need. 100% of those funds will go directly toward helping these dogs.

Adoption

We realize there is a huge amount of interest in the adoption of the pups rescued from a terrible situation recently. Recent news coverage has only intensified this interest. It’s great that so many are willing to open their homes to these dogs. However, we simply don’t have a timeline for when they will be available for adoption. All of them need care and many need medical care, some including surgeries. But, most importantly, they are a part of a criminal investigation and as such, they cannot be adopted until that is resolved and the county gives us the go-ahead. We just don’t have a timeline for that. We are also unable to maintain a wait list. The interest is too great and our hands are very, very full at the moment caring for these little victims. We don’t have the available manpower to maintain that list. The best bet, if you or someone you know is interested in adoption, is to keep a close eye out on our website for updates. Rest assured, we want nothing more than to find these dogs loving and safe homes. We will let the public know the very minute they are available for adoption. Until then, we thank you so, so, so much for your generous and continued support and ask for your patience.

Foster Care

Many have offered to serve as foster families for some of these dogs. We are happy to hear that, but please understand that this is early in the process and we are not able to foster them out yet. Understand that all Foster Families will need to be thoroughly vetted and it could take some time before any dogs are available for fostering. Also note that Foster Families MUST reside in Skagit County to be eligible. At this time we are prioritizing Foster Families with experience with Toy Dog Breeds. If you meet the above criteria and are still interested, please complete the application by clicking the button below.

In The News

Below is the coverage of this case, so far. If you find additional articles or news pieces, please email us so that we may add them here. Please note that some of these sources may be behind a paywall and that is beyond the control of HSSV.
