When Free Really Isn’t Free

We’ve all seen ads on sites like Craigslist advertising kittens for sale super cheap or even for free. Seems like a great deal, right? Well, not so fast. What might seem like an easy and cheap option can actually be costly and heartbreaking. What do you really know about the health of that kitten? Is it old enough to safely leave mom? Will it need special care? Are you prepared to pay for the initial immunizations and a spay or neuter shortly down the road after you get it? Sure, cheap and/or free is great, but remember you get what you pay for.

Kittens adopted through HSSV are monitored closely for health issues by professionals with experience and those health issues are addressed right away. We make sure our kittens are truly weaned away from mom and can safely be separated. Our adoption fees cover the first round of immunizations and a spay or neuter procedure PLUS testing for FeLV/FIV, microchipping, registration, and a pet wagon (cat carrier). We also offer advice and support, even after the adoption. Even with all of that, our kitten adoption price is actually very reasonable at only $150.

Check out the cats and kittens we have available at our shelter here on our website and call us at 360-757-0445 or email shelter@skagithumane.org with questions.

Remember, Adopt don’t shop!
