The Humane Society of Skagit Valley (HSSV) Barn Buddy Program was established to find feline-friendly homes for cats who, for various reasons, would not do well as indoor-only companion pets and are considered unadoptable through our standard adoption process.
Our staff and volunteers teach responsible pet ownership and respect for all animals every day. We try to provide educational information to help animals stay in their home and new adopters learn to acclimate their new pet to their new home. If you or your organization is interested in hosting a visiting educator and a polite shelter pet, please give us a call at 360-757-0445 or email us.
Call us at 360-757-0445 or email us at shelter@skagithumane.org with information about your rescued stray or lost pet and we will log it in our books. However, there is no substitute for the owner coming into the shelter to see if their pet has been brought in. Find more information about lost and found services here.

Sometimes, this means that folks will need to get on a waiting list for an open spot. The Humane Society of Skagit Valley is committed to a no-kill pet policy of adoptable pets.
Surrender fees vary according to your address, as different areas and municipalities have different policies regarding stray animal care and funding. Bring proof of address and photo ID when surrendering a pet.
HSSV participates in animal rescue transfer events to assist other shelters that need to evacuate animals due to emergencies. Whether it’s a flood in Texas or wildfires in California, HSSV has risen to the challenge and taken in animals on an emergency basis for in-shelter care and adoption.
