Foster Care Agreement

Humane Society of Skagit Valley: Foster Care Agreement

By submitting this foster application, I agree to the following terms and conditions:

1. Animal Ownership. All animals placed in my care remain the property of the Humane Society of Skagit Valley ("HSSV") at all times. I understand that I am providing temporary care only, and that HSSV retains the right to remove the animal(s) at any time.

2. Care Standards. I agree to provide the animal(s) with adequate food, water, shelter, exercise, and veterinary care as directed by HSSV staff. I will not allow the animal to roam unsupervised outdoors.

3. Veterinary Care. I will contact HSSV before seeking any non-emergency veterinary care. In case of emergency, I will seek immediate care and notify HSSV as soon as possible. HSSV is responsible for authorized veterinary costs; unauthorized expenses may not be reimbursed.

4. Return of Animal. I agree to return the animal to HSSV upon request and within the timeframe specified. I will not transfer the animal to another person or location without HSSV's written consent.

5. No Adoption Without Approval. I understand that if I wish to adopt the foster animal, I must complete a full adoption application through the regular adoption process. Foster placement does not guarantee adoption priority.

6. Photos and Promotion. I consent to HSSV using photos and updates I provide about the foster animal for adoption promotion and social media, with credit to me as the foster family if desired.

7. Liability. I understand that fostering animals involves some risk. HSSV is not liable for injuries, illness, or property damage caused by the foster animal. I agree to hold HSSV harmless from any such claims.

8. Confidentiality. I agree to keep confidential any information about the animal's history, prior owner, or circumstances of surrender that HSSV shares with me.

9. Communication. I agree to respond promptly to HSSV staff communications and to provide regular updates on the animal's progress as requested.

10. Compliance. I agree to comply with all applicable local, state, and federal animal welfare laws during the foster period.

This agreement becomes effective upon HSSV's acceptance of your foster application.
