How the Humane Society of Skagit Valley collects, uses, and protects your information as a donor, and your privacy rights as our partner.

Thank you for your support and partnership with the Humane Society of Skagit Valley! Together, we protect and care for the homeless animals of Skagit Valley.

We are honored to work with you to care for and protect the precious animals that come through our doors. Please see our donor policy below for important information regarding your donation as well as your relationship with HSSV as a donor. Tax-Deductibility & 501(c)(3) Status

The Humane Society of Skagit Valley (HSSV) is a 501c3 nonprofit organization. Your charitable donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law. HSSV did not provide any goods or services in consideration, in whole or part, for your contribution. Our nonprofit federal tax-exempt number is 91-0903532 and our Washington State UBI# is 600-075-473.

Our Commitment to Donor Privacy

The Humane Society of Skagit Valley (which from here on will be known as The Humane Society of Skagit Valley and or HSSV) is committed to protecting our donor's privacy. We value our donor's trust and we recognize that maintaining this trust requires us to be transparent and accountable to our supporters and the public at all times. This policy will help ensure that all personal information is properly collected, used only for the purposes for which it is collected, and is irretrievably disposed of in a secure and timely manner when it is no longer needed.

The HSSV does not copy, reproduce, publish, post, distribute, share, or sell, the name, personal contact information, or description of a donation amount or donor to any outside individual or business. Exceptions shall be those required by law, requested in grant applications, or in connection with bank credit or debit card transactions that may be made without prior knowledge or consent of the donor.

Awareness

The Donor Privacy Policy was created to ensure privacy for our donors and to inform them on how their information is used. All donors have the opportunity to remove their name from The Humane Society of Skagit Valley's mailing list at any desired time.

Information Collected

Below are examples of the types of donor information HSSV collects and maintains. Payment card details entered during an online donation are processed directly by Stripe and are not received or stored by HSSV.

  • Contact information: Name, organization, complete address, phone number, and email address
  • Donation information: gift amount, date, transaction status, and the billing or mailing contact information you choose to provide
  • Shipping information: name, organization, and complete address
  • Information donors wish to share: questions, comments, and suggestions

How Information Is Used

The HSSV uses donor information to understand our donor needs and to provide our constituents with better service. Specifically, we use donor information to help our donors complete transactions and to communicate organizational updates. For online donations, payment card details are entered on Stripe Checkout. HSSV receives the resulting transaction confirmation and donor information needed for receipts and recordkeeping, but does not receive or store the full card number or security code. We use the comments you offer to provide you with the information requested, and we take each recommendation seriously as we improve communication with donors.

No Sharing of Personal Information

The HSSV will not sell, rent, post, publish, or distribute donor information with other organizations. At certain times of the year, The HSSV will publish names and gift levels to recognize and thank donors. Individuals will not be solicited without their consent.

Security

The HSSV uses generally accepted, industry-standard security systems, software, and encryption technology to protect our donors' information against unauthorized access to The HSSV servers, equipment, and other components of The Humane Society of Skagit Valley's online presence. Online donation payments use Stripe Checkout so payment card details are handled by Stripe's secured payment systems rather than stored on HSSV systems.

Promotional and Marketing Mail and Email

We may send donors postal mail and emails with promotional offers, special event information, sales notifications, or other messages only if our donors choose to receive such material. If donors wish to no longer receive such materials from the HSSV, please follow the "Unsubscribe" instructions at the end of each email.

To stop postal mail, email info@skagithumane.org, call (360) 757-0445, or write to us at the address below and your address will be removed from our database. Please allow a reasonable period of time in order to satisfy your request as some promotions may already be in progress.
