Be a Lifesaver!
Fostering is simply nurturing a shelter pet or litter in your home for a period of time. The majority of animals fostered are litters of kittens. Kittens and sometimes puppies come to the shelter stray or abandoned and are too young and fragile to be placed in permanent homes. They need special care — that’s where you come in. You can help save lives by becoming a foster parent with the Humane Society of Skagit Valley.
If you are interested in becoming a pet foster parent, please complete our online application. Once your application has been received, shelter staff will email you to move forward with an orientation/interview as a new foster parent with the Humane Society!
How to Become a Foster Care Volunteer:
- Review the Foster Program Manuals (below) for more information on what to expect
- Complete the Foster Care Application
- Attend Interview/Orientation once invited by Foster Care Program Administrators
- Once you've attended orientation, you'll be added to our email list and contacted when we have pets in need of placement!

Requirements:
- Must be 21 years or older
- Must reside in Skagit County
- All resident dogs and cats must be kept up-to-date on vaccines
- If interested in fostering a dog and have dogs at home, you must bring resident dogs into the shelter with you to meet with each potential foster dog to avoid any major personality clashes
